I think what the Tory Party has failed to grasp is that most of the country is not politically aligned to either the Labour Party nor the Conservative Party and that there are four nations of the UK.

Dominic Cummings flouting of the rules has therefore not been interpreted by citizens through the prism of party loyalties but through eight weeks of lockdown, the separation of loved ones, the financial and the emotional consequences of staying at home.

The majority of us have chosen to adhere to lockdown but the most senior government advisor has not. Whatever his reasons, the fact that millions of others have paid the price by obeying the rules makes Dominic Cummings trip to and out, a slap in the face to our NHS and care workers, to families unable to say goodbye to loved ones who sadly died and to a country with the highest death toll in all but the US.
