I've been a vegan for 14 weeks and my blood sugar level is normal

I've been a vegetarian for a long time. This is because I do not believe it is right to kill animals. However, in 2005 I was diagnosed with diabetes, type 2. Again the wonderful NHS supported me and I am eternally grateful. At the time, the doctor said that it would get worse as I got older.

14 weeks ago, I became vegan. It had obviously been a goal of mine to do so, but I love cheese. Even now when I see melted cheese on a crusty pizza, I look at it longingly. As for a Twix, I'd devour one. Unfortunately, the dairy industry represents a horror story for the animals. It came to a head for me when I watched Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret on Netflix and I became a vegan on the same evening.

So, apart from the animal welfare issue, the environmental disaster that milking cows and eating farm animals creates, there are also health benefits that I did not quite believe when they were made by the documentary. However, my latest blood tests show that my blood sugar levels are in the normal range, i.e over the last 3 months my levels have gone from 62 mmol to 37 mmol or from 7.6 HbA1C to 5.6 HbA1C. This means I am normal for the first time since 2005.

So, why not consider going vegan? It not only represents a vote to end the slaughter and abuse that animals face during their lives to the horrific slaughter at the end but health benefits. You will not know unless you try.
